Tania Jaimes, MS
Tania was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia where she first entered the research and science world at the National University of Colombia in a Food Science lab. She completed her undergraduate and master studies in Biological Engineering and Biotechnology, working with the antioxidant and biological properties of a Colombian berry. Her first interest in the biomedical field was during her master’s studies where she was able to test the berry’s antimicrobial and anti-proliferative properties during two internships in an Immunovirology lab and a Cancer lab in Colombia and Italy. She then won the Fulbright Scholarship and came to the U.S. for her PhD in Albert Einstein College of Medicine, joining the Herold Lab in 2024. Her project in the lab focuses on understanding the mechanism by which TNFRSF14 mediates antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) to provide protection against HSV infection.
Tania is definitely not a morning person, so you might find her staying in the lab until late rather than coming in the morning, but equally productive. She is also very passionate about teaching and would love to delve into an academic career. Although, if science doesn’t work out for her, she can always pursue her frustrated dream of being a dancer that travels the world with a famous artist.
